50 crores

There was a trader who lived in a small town in India. He kept saving all the money he earned throughout. One fine day he decided to count  his savings so far and to his surprise it had summed up to a whopping fifty crore rupees.

“Good enough now“ said the man and promised himself that he will enjoy the rest of his life with this huge sum of earnings. The moment he decided that he would start using the fifty crores, he sensed that someone was standing right in front of him ,staring at him intensely.
The trader was alarmed and he shouted to the unknown man ,”Who are you ?!!! How dare you come into my house without my permission”. The man explained, ”My name is Death. I don’t come with an invitation .I come and…”invite”.

The trader cried , “This is not fair. When are you planning to take me ?”. Death replied , ”Right now”. The trader explained “Just now I had finished counting, I have fifty crores with me which I had earned all my life and only now I have decided to enjoy it .You cannot do this to me“. Death replied, ”Your time is over and you don’t have a choice here “

The trader went on to bargain , “I will offer you half the money I have got .Give me at least one month of life so that I can enjoy the wealth I hold and then I will be willing to come .Death said , ”I don’t think you understand how I operate. I don’t negotiate ,your time is over and so I am here to take you away.

“I will give you the entire sum of fifty crores I have got ,Just give me one day’s time in life”. But Death said, ”I cannot give you a minute extra .The trader pleaded “At least give me one last moment in life. Death yielded and said, ”Ok whatever you wish to do , do it for one moment”. The trader ran to his scribbling pad and wrote, “All of you who have money ,immediately start enjoying it “.He added note to it “I just realized that even with a sum of fifty crores I could not buy one minute of life with it !”

Think about our everyday lives . All day we keep working so hard to make money without realizing that there is a limit to which it can aid us.

Money cannot buy a day in your life . If you fail to use the day's deposits, the loss is yours. There is no going back. There is no drawing against the tomorrow. You must live in the present on today's deposits. Invest it so as to get from it the utmost in health, happiness and success!  Make the most of today.”

The Jigsaw puzzle

There was a man who had the habit of reading the newspaper in the morning. He would do anything else only after reading the entire newspaper.

One morning while he was reading the news columns, his six year old daughter was insisting  that he play with her. The father was interrupted by the child’s actions. He saw a full page advertisement of a courier company with the world map on it .

Instantly the father tore the advertisement into pieces from the paper. He scattered the pieces of paper all-round the room and told the kid "Dear, this is your jigsaw puzzle. Complete this and I will  play with you soon after you are done"

Within ten minutes the child came back to the father , "Dad look. I am done".

The father was shocked at  the speed at which the kid had completed that jigsaw puzzle. Immediately the child said, "Dad ,I do know why you are shocked. When you tore the newspaper advertisement , I noticed the picture of a man behind the advertisement page"

The child continued stating, "Dad, I do not know where exactly New Zealand is, where exactly Japan ,Canada are …but I know one thing . I know where the  nose should be, where the eyes should be, where the forehead should be. I got the man right and the map  came out right. "

We cannot solve the jigsaw puzzles in our lives with the same thinking that went in to creating them. The moment you change your perception is the moment you rewrite your possibilities of becoming successful!!

Miracles happen

An eight-year-old child heard her parents talking about her little brother. All she knew was that he was very sick and they had no money left. They were moving to a smaller house because they could not afford to stay in the present house after paying the doctor's bills. Only a very costly surgery could save him now and there was no one to loan them the money.

When she heard her daddy say to her tearful mother with whispered desperation, 'Only a miracle can save him now', the little girl went to her bedroom and pulled her piggy bank from its hiding place in the closet. She poured all the change out on the floor and counted it carefully. Clutching the precious piggy bank tightly, she slipped out the back door and made her way six blocks to the local drugstore. She took a quarter from her bank and placed it on the glass counter.

"What do you want?" asked the pharmacist.

"It's for my little brother," the girl answered back. "He's really very sick and I want to buy a miracle."

"I beg your pardon?" said the pharmacist.

"His name is Andrew and he has something bad growing inside his head and my daddy says only a miracle can save him. So how much does a miracle cost?"

"We don't sell miracles here, child. I'm sorry," the pharmacist said, smiling sadly at the little girl.

"Listen, I have the money to pay for it. If it isn't enough, I can try and get some more. Just tell me how much it costs."

In the shop was a well-dressed customer. He stooped down and asked the little girl, "What kind of a miracle does your brother need?""I don't know," she replied with her eyes welling up. "He's really sick and mommy says he needs an operation. But my daddy can't pay for it, so I have brought my savings".

"How much do you have?" asked the man.

"One dollar and eleven cents; but I can try and get some more", she answered barely audibly.

"Well, what a coincidence," smiled the man, "A dollar and eleven cents - the exact price of a miracle for little brothers."

He took her money in one hand and held her hand with the other. He said, "Take me to where you live. I want to see your brother and meet your parents. Let's see if I have the kind of miracle you need. "That well-dressed man was Dr.Carlton Armstrong, a neurosurgeon. The operation was completed without charge and it wasn't long before Andrew was home again and doing well. "That surgery," her mom whispered, "was a real miracle. I wonder how much it would have cost."The little girl smiled. She knew exactly how much the miracle cost ... one dollar and eleven cents ... plus the faith of a little child.

Perseverance can make miracles happen! Miracle can come in various forms - as a doctor, as a lawyer, as a teacher, as a police ,as a friend, as a stranger and many others. A river cuts the rock not because of its power, but because of its consistency.

Never lose your hope & keep walking towards your vision.

Clean your Cup first !!

In a small office, there were a set of project mates who shared a refrigerator .In that refrigerator was a water filter pitcher. One of the coworkers complained that the water tasted "dirty". It went on for a few days and she was stunned to see others could drink the water without any trouble. The others started to doubt their taste buds but the water tasted fine to the others who consumed it.

The management brought in experts to fix the water filter , who dismissed the complaint of the company .Finally, they figured that the problem was actually the employee’s cup. She simply forgot to clean it, and after a while started to affect the water inside it. She cleaned her cup and then had water which tasted good.

Think about the world we live in. Too often we quickly blame other people, other things but ourselves.

E.g. - "You're troublesome". "Others are intolerant". "The problem is in our system".

The world isn't perfect, we all know but we should take a step back sometimes and ask ourselves some tough questions. Can I be better at this? Is there a way I can do this better ? Is there a way I can manage this situation better with the available support ?

Please look into yourself before you complain . Your life can only change to the degree of responsibility you accept. Self-reflection is the school of Wisdom!!

Greed and satisfaction

A disciple asked his Master, “My mind is fluttery always and unclear , what could be wrong with me?”

The Master said, “In order to answer your question, go through the rose garden next to our place and pick the one rose you like the most. But there is a rule. As you pass through the garden, you cannot turn back. You must pick the rose as you go forward only.”

The disciple went to the Rose  garden. As he walked through, He found a rose - fragrant  and fully bloomed in the moon light , he instantly liked it but he wondered that he may find a much better one further. So, he walked further, and  he saw another rose . But again, he thought the same. When he reached the end of the garden, he couldn’t see any rose at all ,there were plants which were yet to bear any flowers  and he started to regret his decision of letting them all go earlier.

Finally, he gave up. He went back to the Master empty handed.

The Master told him, "You did like the first rose very much but still you kept looking for a better one. And later you realized that what you let go was the best one  you could find there. That my dear is called Greed."

Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever  reaching satisfaction. A bird in hand, is any day worth two in a bush.

Thanks for packing my Parachute

Charles Plumb was a US Navy jet pilot in Vietnam. After 75 combat missions, his plane as destroyed by a surface-to-air missile. Plumb ejected and parachuted into enemy hands. He was captured and spent 6 years in a communist Vietnamese prison. He survived the ordeal and now lectures on lessons learned from that experience.

One day, when Plumb and his wife were sitting in a restaurant, a man at another table came up and said, “You’re Plumb! You flew jet fighters in Vietnam from the aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk. You were shot down!

How in the world did you know that?” asked Plumb.
I packed your parachute” the man replied.

Plumb gasped in surprise and gratitude. The man pumped his hand and said, “I guess it worked!” Plumb assured him, “It sure did. If your chute hadn’t worked, I wouldn’t be here today.

Plumb couldn’t sleep that night, thinking about that man. Plumb says, “I kept wondering what he might have looked like in a Navy uniform: a white hat, a bib in the back, and bell-bottom trousers. I wonder how many times I might have seen him and not even said Good morning, how are you?’ or anything because, you see, I was a fighter pilot and he was just a sailor.”

Plumb thought of the man hours the sailor had spent on a long wooden table in the bowels of the ship, carefully weaving the shrouds and folding the silks of each chute, holding in his hands each time the fate of someone he didn’t know.

Who’s packing your parachute?” Everyone has someone who provides what they need to make it through the day. Plumb also points out that he needed many kinds of parachutes when his plane was shot down over enemy territory-he needed his physical parachute, his mental parachute, his emotional parachute, and his spiritual parachute. He called on all these supports before reaching safety.
Sometimes in the daily challenges that life gives us, we miss what is really important. We may fail to say hello, please, or thank you, congratulate someone on something wonderful that has happened to them, give a compliment, or just do something nice for no reason.

As you go through this week, this month, this year, recognize people who pack your parachute. Take a moment to  thank everyone who packed your parachute in  2016  - with your words, deeds and prayers. Cheers to a wonderful 2017.

Wish you all a very happy New year !!

Value

A little boy went to his old grandpa and asked, "What's the value of life?". The grandpa gave him one stone and said, "Find out the value of this stone, but don't sell it."

The boy took the stone to an Orange Seller and asked him what its cost would be. The Orange Seller saw the shiny stone and said, "You can take 12 oranges and give me the stone. "The boy apologized and said that the grandpa has asked him not to sell it.

He went ahead and found a vegetable seller. "What could be the value of this stone?" he asked the vegetable seller. The seller saw the shiny stone and said, "Take one sack of potatoes and give me the stone. "The boy again apologized and said he can't sell it.

He then went into a jewelry shop and asked the value of the stone. The jeweler saw the stone under a lens and said, "I'll give you 1 million for this stone." When the boy shook his head, the jeweler said, "Alright, alright, take 2,  24 Karat Gold necklaces, but give me the stone. "The boy explained that he can't sell the stone.

Further ahead, the boy saw a precious stone's shop and asked the seller the value of this stone. When the precious stone's seller saw the big ruby, he lay down a red cloth and put the ruby on it. Then he walked in circles around the ruby and bent down and touched his head in front of the ruby. "From where did you bring this priceless ruby from?" he asked. "Even if I sell the whole world, and my life, I won't be able to purchase this priceless stone."

Stunned and confused, the boy returned to the grandpa and told him what had happened. "Now tell me what is the value of life, grandpa?" Grandpa said, "The answers you got from the Orange Seller, the Vegetable Seller, the Jeweler & the Precious Stone's Seller explain the value of our life. You may be a precious stone, even priceless, but, people will value you based on their financial status, their level of information, their belief in you, their motive behind entertaining you, their ambition, and their risk taking ability. But don't fear, you will surely find someone who will recognize your true value."

Respect Yourself. Don't Sell Yourself Cheap. You are Rare, Unique, Original and no one can replace YOU.

One Step at a time!!

There was a man taking a morning walk in a beach. He saw that along with the morning tide came hundreds of starfish and when the tide receded, they were left behind and with the morning sun rays. The man thought that  they would die. The tide was fresh and the starfishes were alive. The man took a few steps, picked one and threw it into the water. He did that repeatedly.

Right behind him there was another person who couldn't understand what this man was doing. He asked, "What are you doing? There are hundreds of starfish.

How many can you help? What difference does it make?" This man did not reply-he took two more steps, picked up another one, threw it into the water, and said, "It makes a difference to this one."

They say that one of the most common reasons we procrastinate is because we see the challenge before us as overwhelming, and that a good way to counter that is to break the big challenge down into smaller pieces and then take those one at a time–like one starfish at a time.  And to that one starfish, it can make a world of difference.

A single, ordinary person still can make a difference – and single, ordinary people are doing precisely that every day.”

The Cookie Thief

A woman was waiting at an airport one night, with several long hours before her flight. She hunted for a book in the airport shops, bought a bag of cookies and found a place to sit.

While she was engrossed in her book ,a man sitting beside her grabbed a cookie or two from the bag in between, which she tried to ignore to avoid a scene.

So she munched the cookies and watched the clock, as the gutsy cookie thief diminished her stock. She was getting more irritated as the minutes ticked by, thinking, “If I wasn’t so nice, I would blacken his eye.”

With each cookie she took, he took one too, when only one was left, she wondered what he would do. With a smile on his face, and a nervous laugh, he took the last cookie and broke it in half.

He offered her half, as he ate the other, she snatched it from him and thought… ooh, brother. This guy has some nerve and he’s also rude, why he didn’t even show any gratitude!

She had never known when she had been so galled, and sighed with relief when her flight was called.
She gathered her belongings and headed to the gate, refusing to look back at the thieving ingrate.

She boarded the plane, and sank in her seat, then she sought her book, which was almost complete. As she reached in her baggage, she gasped with surprise, there was her bag of cookies, in front of her eyes.

If mine are here, she moaned in despair, the others belonged to him and he tried to share. Too late to apologize, she realized with grief, that she was the rude one, the ingrate, the thief.

When you jump to conclusions you often skip over the truth and sometimes it is too late to make amends…….

Stay Strong !!

A man was an avid Gardener. He saw a small butterfly laying few eggs in one of the pots in his garden. Since that day he kept looking at the eggs with ever growing curiosity and eagerness.

One day, an egg started to move and shake a little. He was excited to see a new life coming up right in front of his eyes. He spent hours watching the egg. The egg started to expand and develop cracks. A tiny head and antennae started to come out slowly. The man's excitement knew no bounds and he got his magnifying glasses  and sat to watch the life and body of a pupa coming out. He saw the struggle of the tender pupa and couldn't resist his urge to help. He went and got a tender forceps to help the egg break, a nip here and there, to help the struggling life. The pupa was out and the man felt ecstatic!

Though he waited each day for the pupa to grow and fly like a beautiful butterfly, that never happened .The larvae pupa had an over-sized head and kept crawling along in the pot for 4 weeks and then died!

Depressed, the man went to his botanist friend and asked for the reason.
The botanist told him that, the struggle to break out of the egg helps the larvae to send blood to its wings and the  push helps the head to remain small so that the tender wings can support it through its 4 weeks of life cycle. In his eagerness to help the pupa, the man had destroyed a beautiful life!

Struggle helps us all in our lives. It is that effort we put in to overcome difficulties in life, that actually builds us .

Peace !

Once a master was walking from one town to another town with a few of his followers. While they were traveling, they happened to pass a lake. They stopped there and the master told one of his disciples “I am thirsty. Do get me some water from that lake there.”

The disciple walked up to the lake. When he reached it, he noticed that some people were washing clothes in the water and, right at that moment, a bullock cart started crossing through the lake. As a result, the water became very muddy, very turbid. The disciple thought, “How can I give this muddy water to my master to drink!” So he came back and told , “The water in there is very muddy. I don’t think it is fit to drink.”
After about half an hour, the Master asked the same disciple to go back to the lake and get him some water to drink. The disciple obediently went back to the lake. This time he found that the lake had absolutely clear water in it. The mud had settled down and the water above it looked fit to be had. So he collected some water in a pot and brought it to the Master.

The Master looked at the water, and then he looked up at the disciple and said, “See what you did to make the water clean. You let it be ... and the mud settled down on its own, and you got clear water!

Your mind is also like that. When it is disturbed, just let it be. Give it a little time. It will settle down on its own. You don’t have to put in any effort to calm it down. It will happen. It is effortless.”

Having 'peace of mind' is not a strenuous job; it is an effortless process. Just give your mind some time to settle down and there will be peace within soon. When there is peace inside you, it permeates to the outside.

Call for greater Strength

A young boy and his father were walking along a forest path. At some point, they came across a large tree branch on the ground in front of them.

The boy asked his father, “If I try, do you think I could move that branch?” His father replied, “I am sure you can, if you use all your strength.”

The boy tried his best to lift or push the branch, but he was not strong enough and he couldn’t move it.

He said, with disappointment, “You were wrong, dad. I can’t move it.”“Try again,” replied his father.

Again, the boy tried hard to push the branch. He struggled but it did not move. “Dad, I cannot do it,” said the boy.

Finally his father said, “Son, I advised you to use all your strength. You didn’t.“You didn’t ask for my help.”

Our real strength lies not in independence, but in interdependence. No individual person has all the strengths, all the resources and all the stamina required for the complete blossoming of their vision. That requires the inspired collaboration of many like-hearted beings. To ask for help and support when we need it is not a sign of weakness, it is a sign of wisdom. It is a wise call for the greater strength that lives in our togetherness.

Acres of Diamonds!!

There was a farmer in Africa who was happy and content. One day a wise man came to him and told him about the glory of diamonds and the power that goes along with them. The wise man said, “If you had a diamond the size of your thumb, you could have your own city. If you had a diamond the size of your fist, you could probably own your own country.” And then he went away. That night the farmer couldn’t sleep. He was unhappy and he was discontent.

The next morning he made arrangements to sell off his farm and went in search of diamonds. He looked all over Africa and couldn’t find any. He looked all through Europe and couldn’t find any. When he got to Spain, he was emotionally, physically and financially broke. He got so disheartened that he threw himself into the Barcelona River and committed suicide.

Back home, the person who had bought his farm was watering the camels at a stream that ran through the farm.
Across the stream, the rays of the morning sun hit a stone and made it sparkle like a rainbow. He thought it would look good on the mantle piece. He picked up the stone and put it in the living room. That afternoon the wise man came and saw the stone sparkling. He asked, “Is the farmer back?” The new owner said, “No, why do you ask?” The wise man said, “Because that is a diamond. I recognize one when I see one” .The man said, no, that’s just a stone I picked up from the stream. Come, I’ll show you. There are many more. They found that the farm was indeed covered with acres and acres of diamonds.

Each of us is, at this very moment is standing in the middle of our own acres of diamonds. If we had only had the wisdom and patience to intelligently and effectively explore the work in which we’re now engaged, to explore ourselves, we would most likely find the riches we seek. We fail to recognize the wealth in our own backyard and we end up walking over untold riches every day!!

Tomatoes !!!

A teacher asked her students to bring some tomatoes in a plastic bag to school. Each tomato was to be given the name of a person whom that child hates. So, the number of tomatoes would be equal to the number of persons they hate.

On a pre-determined day, All the children brought their tomatoes well addressed. Some had two, some had three and some had five, some even had 20 tomatoes in accordance with the number of people they hated.

The teacher then told them they had to carry the tomatoes with them everywhere they go for two weeks.

As the days passed the children started to complain about the decay and smell of the tomatoes. The students who had many tomatoes complained it was very heavy to carry and the smell was too much.

After a week, the teacher asked the students “How did you feel this week?” The children complained of the awful smell and heavy weight of the tomatoes, especially those who carried several tomatoes.

The teacher said, “This is very similar to what you carry in your heart when you don’t like some people. Hatred makes the heart unhealthy and you carry that hatred everywhere. If you can’t bear the smell of spoilt tomatoes for a week, imagine the impact of bitterness on your heart as you carry it daily.”

The heart is a beautiful garden that needs regular cleaning of unwanted weeds.  Forgive those who have angered you. This makes room for storing good things.

Get Better, Not Bitter!!!

Let's not Judge!

A 24 year old boy and his old aged father were travelling in a train. There was a newlywed couple travelling with him in their compartment. Ten minutes after the onset of journey , looking out from the train’s window the 24 year shouted…

“Dad, look the trees are going behind!”

Dad smiled and the young couple sitting nearby, looked at the 24 year Old’s childish behavior with pity, suddenly he again exclaimed…

“Dad, look the clouds are running with us!”

The Old man smiled at his son again and nodded in affirmation .

The couple couldn’t resist and whispered to the old man…“Why don’t you take your son to a good doctor?

”The old man smiled and said…“I did and we are just coming from the hospital, my son was blind from birth, he just got his eyes last week. For those beautiful things he missed in his childhood due to his blindness,  let him hold on to his views for a while “

Looks are always deceptive. Every single person on the planet has a story. Don’t judge people before you truly know them. The truth might surprise you !!!

The tale of Two Pebbles

Many years ago in a small Indian village, a farmer had the misfortune of owing a large sum of money to a village moneylender. The moneylender, who was old and ugly, fancied the farmer’s beautiful daughter. So he proposed a bargain. He said he would forgo the farmer’s debt if he could marry his daughter.

Both the farmer and his daughter were horrified by the proposal. So the cunning money-lender suggested that they let providence decide the matter. He told them that he would put a black pebble and a white pebble into an empty money bag. Then the girl would have to pick one pebble from the bag.

If she picked the black pebble, she would become his wife and her father’s debt would be forgiven. If she picked the white pebble she need not marry him and her father’s debt would still be forgiven. If she refused to pick a pebble, her father would be thrown into jail.

They were standing on a pebble strewn path in the farmer’s field. As they talked, the moneylender bent over to pick up two pebbles. As he picked them up, the sharp-eyed girl noticed that he had picked up two black pebbles and put them into the bag. He then asked the girl to pick a pebble from the bag.

The girl put her hand into the moneybag and drew out a pebble. Without looking at it, she fumbled and let it fall onto the pebble-strewn path where it immediately became lost among all the other pebbles.

“Oh, how clumsy of me!” she said. “But never mind, if you look into the bag for the one that is left, you will be able to tell which pebble I picked.”

The moneylender dared not admit his dishonesty and the girl walked with pride relieving her father off his debt. The girl changed what seemed an impossible situation into an extremely advantageous one.

Most Problems have Solutions. We just need to Think differently.

Sharpening your Axe

Once upon a time, a very strong woodcutter asked for a job in a timber merchant and he got it. The pay was really good and so was the work condition. For those reasons, the woodcutter was determined to do his best.

His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he supposed to work.

The first day, the woodcutter brought 18 trees.

“Congratulations,” the boss said. “Go on that way!”

Very motivated by the boss words, the woodcutter tried harder the next day, but he could only bring 15 trees. The third day he tried even harder, but he could only bring 10 trees. Day after day he was bringing less and less trees.

“I must be losing my strength”, the woodcutter thought. He went to the boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on.

“When was the last time you sharpened your axe?” the boss asked.

“Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees…”

We sometimes get so busy with our work that we don’t take time to sharpen the “axe”. In today’s world, it seems that everyone is busier than ever, but we should make time to sharpen ourselves , our skills so that our hard work and efforts become fruitful.

The right approach

It once happened, on a certain day, a bull and a pheasant were grazing on the field. The bull was grazing on the grass, the pheasant was picking ticks off the bull; they are partners, you know?

Then the pheasant looked at a huge tree which was at the edge of the field, and very nostalgically said, "Alas, there was a time when I could fly to the top most branch of the tree, but today I do not have the strength even to fly to the first branch of the tree"

The bull very nonchalantly said, "That's no problem! Eat a little bit of my dung every day, you will see, within a fortnight's time you will reach the top of the tree."

The pheasant said, "Oh, come off it! How is that possible?"

The bull replied, "Really, please try and see. The whole humanity is on it, you could try, too."

Very hesitantly, the pheasant started pecking at the dung, and on the very first day it reached the first branch of the tree. In a fortnight's time, it reached the topmost branch of the tree. After all it required just  the strength to make up his mind, to climb the tree and the bull did the trick. The Pheasant just went and sat on the topmost branch and just enjoyed the scenery. The old farmer saw a fat old pheasant on the top of the tree. He took out his shotgun and shot him off the tree.

Any trick can get you to the top, but never lets you stay there. It requires unprecedented efforts to get to the top but clarity and the right approach alone can help you stay there.

One man bought a beautiful house with an orchard. Nearby an envious man lived in the old house. He was constantly trying to ruin the mood of his new neighbor: he threw garbage under his gates and made other nasty things.

One day the man woke up in a good mood, went out onto the porch and saw a bucket of slops there. The man took this bucket, poured out the slops, cleaned a bucket, put the most ripe and delicious apples there and went to his neighbor. The neighbor heard a knock at the door and gleefully thought: “Finally I got it!”

He opened the door expecting for a quarrel. However the man gave him a bucket of apples saying:

The one who is rich with something, shares it with others!!
